With the campus’s excellent recreation facilities and Idaho’s mountains, this program provides students with hands-on training and experiences in swimming, river guiding, outdoor adventure, wilderness emergencies, program planning and management, and much more. Introduction to Recreation Professions, Outdoor Leisure Pursuits, Psychology, Swimming, River Reading and Whitewater Safety, and Wilderness First Responder are some of the courses students take. Admission requires ACT or SAT test scores as well as an official high school transcript showing graduation date.
Master of Science in Movement & Leisure Sciences (Recreation, Sport, and Tourism Management Specialization)
Delivery Method: Online, On-Campus
Credits Required: 30 Credit Hours
Students in this program will be prepared to work in municipal parks and recreation, K-12 and university sports programs, outdoor and adventure recreation, special events, tourism, and sports facilities. Students will learn how to plan, organize, and implement experiences and programs for a variety of audiences. For on-campus students, Idaho’s location and campus provide ample opportunities for students to explore lakes, mountains, and rivers, popular park and tourism destinations, and university sporting events. Research in Physical Activity, Theory, and Design, Ethical Practice and Communication in Physical Activity, and Activity and Health in Movement and Leisure Sciences are all required courses. Prospective students with educational backgrounds in health, physical education, recreation, exercise science, and other related fields are given priority for admission. A GPA of 3.0 is required.
B.A. Sport Management
Delivery Method: On-Campus
Credits Required: 120 Credit Hours
This program will prepare students to lead and facilitate athletic programs in the future. Hands-on events and paid internship opportunities provide students with competitive experiences that will help them land their dream job after graduation. Some of the courses covered include Sport Communication, Introduction to Sport Law, Kinesiology for Teachers and Coaches, and Organization and Administration of Physical Education. Applicants must provide transcripts or a GED, as well as official ACT or SAT scores.
Sport Administration Certificate

Credits Required: 14 Credit Hours
This certificate program prepares students with the B.A. or B.S. degree for careers in the growing business of sport and athletic administration. Successful completion of the program provides a foundation for students and professionals interested in careers in the management of sports programs or sports marketing and communication. Required courses are Sport Finance, Ethics in Sport, Sport Administration/Management, and Sport Marketing & Promotion. To earn a post-baccalaureate certificate in Sport Administration at The College of Idaho, a candidate’s graduate coursework must be completed with a 2.0 GPA or better.
