Several professional sports teams call Missouri home, including the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs, St. Louis Rams, and St. Louis Blues. In addition, 24 minor league sports teams compete in sports ranging from rugby and soccer to ice hockey and tennis.
Because quality experiential learning opportunities outside of the classroom are an important part of any education, having access to so many teams in the area provides plenty of opportunities for research and real-world experience. The following are some of the career paths that a sport management degree will prepare you for.
Athletic Coach: Athletes are taught, mentored, and trained by coaches in both professional and recreational settings. Sport Marketer: Sports marketers promote sporting events and organizations such as the Olympics and the National Football League. They may also promote specific high-profile athletes. In general, sports marketers strive to tell a story that both promotes their respective organizations and sports in general.
Game Day or Event Coordinator: Game day or event coordinators help with sporting event logistics on the day of the event. This includes overseeing and managing all parties involved in sporting events, from vendors to athletes to media reporters.
